ISO 9001:2026 — updating requirements and evidence
Last updated:
ISO published the sixth edition, ISO 9001:2026, on 16 September 2026. It emphasizes quality culture and leadership and distinguishes risks from opportunities. In Pulsar, the organization uses a lawfully obtained copy of the standard; publication does not automatically change an active analysis or certificate status.
Source and verification date: 29 September 2026, ISO — ISO 9001:2026.
Before starting the change
- Check the edition used by your quality system, certification scope and customer requirements. Keep that information with the analysis and audit documents.
- Obtain the licensed final 2026 standard. Mark DIS/FDIS drafts as historical material; do not use them as the current production standard.
- Agree the transition schedule with your certification body and quality system owner. Withdrawal of an old edition from the ISO catalogue does not by itself determine your organization’s certificate expiry date.
Introduce the new source without losing history
- In source materials, add the final ISO 9001:2026 edition as a new version. Record title, edition, date and provenance. Preserve the previous version and analyses based on it.
- Select the approved organization context: processes, business scope, owners and relevant customer requirements. Define the transition review scope.
- Prepare a draft analysis. If using AI, invoke it explicitly and check citations against the final source. A draft does not change registers or compliance status.
- Compare new and previous requirements. Separate additions, removals, changes and items needing assessment. Review effects on controls, procedures, risks, opportunities, audits and evidence.
- Review proposed mappings. Retain evidence still relevant to the new scope and assign actions, owners and dates for gaps. Do not mark the whole system compliant because an import completed.
- Approve the new analysis under the required permissions and record the activation decision. The previous approved version remains the reference until an explicit decision; historical audits retain their source.
Review readiness checklist
- Each requirement identifies the final edition and correct source; clause numbers have been checked in the licensed standard.
- Effects on processes, documents and responsibility are identified; open actions have owners and dates.
- Evidence versions, decisions and history remain traceable. Training or acknowledgements completed in CrewShift return as approved evidence to the correct record.
- Effectiveness assessment and internal audit address the agreed scope. The certification body makes certification decisions; software does not.
IATF and dependent requirements
Do not automatically change IATF 16949:2016, CSR or customer references from 2015 to 2026. Check applicable IATF documents, interpretations and customer instructions. An analysis can combine independently versioned sources; retain their versions and the assessment rationale.
